The 155th Portage County Randolph Fair starts today. Two weeks ago I submitted my entry form and it included several no-pectin jams, my kick ass bread and butter pickles (no space in the jars! darn near perfect!), a bouquet of fresh cut zinnias, and some tomatoes, eggplant, and kale. I had really high hopes for my no-pectin blueberry. Had.
Here is me last year winning a blue ribbon for my no-pectin black raspberry jam.
Look at how happy I was. Not a care in the world….
Entries close at 8pm the night before the fair starts. At 7:45, as I was stirring a big ol’ pot of jam, I realized I forgot to take my entries up to the fairgrounds. I freaking forgot! I was too busy freakin’ jamming and it totally slipped my mind.
I know it is totally lame but I cried a little. Mike said, “You don’t need a blue ribbon to know your jam is good. It’s damn good! In fact, give me a taste of this stuff on the stove.” He made me feel a little better but not really.
And at 11pm when I took the last pints of tomatoes out of the canner I collapsed.
2013 me = exhaustion
I laid on my kitchen floor, cuddled with my cat, and cursed my piss poor memory. Oh well. As we’re inclined to say here in Northeast Ohio, “There’s always next year.”
